Develop the habit of thinking of yourself as consciousness, not as the body or a person. Do not associate yourself with any object or concept, however appealing, and the personal, the cause of all miseries will dissolve. Remain in the state of space-like awareness, free from all notions. This is the pathless path to timeless Awareness.

Turn Your Face Towards Consciousness (Papaji)
Water has no shape, its nature is to flow. If you put it into a vase it will take the shape of the vase. In this cup, it has assumed the shape of the cup. If poured into my cupped hands it will take the shape of the hands. But water has no shape. It is the same with the consciousness, which is subtler than water. It similarly has no form, but it assumes the form of whatever concept it is poured into or identifies with, but it will never be the form. It remains ever its formless nature.
There is no 'person' tasting life. The person itself is a taste. Consciousness as 'I' is tasting existence in the guise of the personhood. Reflect. Consciousness is the flavour of the Absolute.
Trouble is also the guru, because it turns consciousness towards its own source.
A thought may arise : 'It's okay now, but it's going to be different when I step out the door'. Already you are anticipating your downfall. Recognize these as just thoughts. You can just watch them, feel their pull yet observe them as a movement in consciousness. Stay put as formless awareness.
Bondage and liberation are conceptual traps which, through the illusory power of Mahamaya, cosmic mind, deludes the already free beingness, thus converting it into the illusory seeker entity. We are conscious presence only, eternally free, formless, happy and whole. The good news of satsang is this : you are That, effortlessly witnessing the consciousness expressing. Yet we remain untouched as timeless existence, awareness-joy absolute.
Go beyond everything. Don't collect anything. A king does not need to go shopping in his own kingdom. Nor does he beg. Remember, you are the Inner reality-pure awareness only. All that arises are appearances in consciousness. Don't bother with all that. Rest only as the awareness. This is the secret.
The one who's struggling is still 100% the consciousness. But without the awareness of it, the consciousness that you are consciousness, it is like your parents leave you money hidden under the floor boards and have gone away, and they are not able to get in touch with you, and you are going hungry, eating bread and water, begging for food, and wealth is under your floor boards, it's of any value to you now, cause you're not aware of it.
Here in Satsang, It wants to know Itself, It wants to only stop associating. This is what Satsang means. Because the nature of mind and consciousness is to associate with something. Satsang means to associate with the highest truth, which means to associate with your own Self.
Just feel that 'stuff', allow it to be expressed, it flows within the human expression of consciousness, let it be. Because when it has been given the room to express itself, then the space behind, which is joyful, steady and tranquil will come to the front, only don't name this enlightenment and then feel that you've gained something, instead recognize and pay full attention to the unchanging silence which is the substratum of all that is appearing in the mind.
I don't know how to explain it further than that : you are this I Am-ness, and even prior to I Am-ness there is That which Is. You're never a part from it, because you are That. But somehow this knowledge must announce itself in the mind. That's what has to happen, the knowledge has to announce itself inside the consciousness itself. Because it is the consciousness in the mind that becomes enlightened, not the Supreme.
The enquiry is to find out who suffers, to come to see that it's not what you are, but that it's the idea of yourself that is suffering. A concept is suffering from other concepts. A concept about you is suffering from concepts about others and about yourself, observed in consciousness. Keep quiet.
Maybe the laughing or the crying will happen in consciousness, but the one who is crying will not happen. The one who's apparently used to think "I am crying", "Will I laugh or cry ?"... "I" is what ? That must be the consciousness itself. And we are not talking about forms here. Awareness is formless, consciousness is formless, mind is formless, "I" is formless, so we are trying to speak accurately about something that has no boundary.
Effort is also an aspect of grace and consciousness.
Consciousness is finite, it also comes and goes, all of this realm is moving about; awareness does not, and you are this awareness.
As soon as the consciousness comes in, like in awaking state, soon after, the sense of 'I' comes, and when 'I' comes, time comes, 'you' come, world comes, job comes, yesterday and tomorrow come, all of this comes in. And it's functioning for the 'I', the 'me', "I must do this, I must do that, I love this, I don't like this", all of this comes in awaking state. It's like a package deal, as soon as the consciousness is present, this functioning of an experiencer, what is being experienced, and the very function and act of experiencing, all of this is the play of consciousness. I don't know if this is making sense, but it is like this, this is what is happening. You are the witness of this consciousness, but you, the watching consciousness is also in this form (showing the body). When you 'I', 'I' actually represents consciousness, but 'I' has become 'person' by associating with time and space, parents, country, body, senses. So the 'I' which is pure gets converted somehow into this belief that it is a particular person, from particular place, with particular ideals, and so on. So it gets more and more fragmented, this 'I' which is quite a unity, this intuition, this feeling 'I am'.
